Shuttleworth: racle now largest open source player
ZDNet
n Monday Mark Shuttleworth founder of Canonical and Ubuntu Linux said the deal makes racle one of the largest if not the largest open source software player. And he doesn’t seem too worried that the proprietary software company will kill Sun’s open source Java penSolaris and MySQL jewels in spite of racle’s hold on the database market. “I’m sure racle has carefully thought through everything it committed [itself] to [and] there will be no reversal of the idea that Java should be widely available and available as open source” Shuttleworth said during a press conference today to launch ubuntu 9.

Microsoft to open source: Please don’t compete on price!
CNET News
For 3 years I kept puttin off linux because of the talk of it being very hard & a few google searches showed me how ignorant my mindset was. You don’t have to be a tech nerd to get the feel of linux (thats what Google is for) but have the will to learn something new all linux cost is your time & alittle education. In my honest views I think EMs who consider linux should distibute easy to use distros like Ubuntu & ubuntu variates as a gateway not to knock the other distros but strenghten exposure. Microsoft should keep light on Windows 7’s price because I feel this lashout on open source pricing is just to soften the blow for a hefty S pricetag they have in the pipeline. ” He also mentions the upcoming Cortex A9 chip to be coming in 2010 and that these will begin sporting multicores. Now multicores is something that I’ve been waiting for in a netbook. perating Systems for ARMUbuntu has already been a big supporter of the ARM architecture and now will have. Along with Ubuntu some other S “main pillars” for the ARM architecture as Morris calls them are Android which we’ll most likely be seeing in commercially-produced netbooks soon Movial’s S.

Windows 7 application limit opens door for Android
Computerworld
The #1 use of most PC’s these days is running a web browser #2 sending mail. The average user wouldn’t know Ubuntu with KDE 4. Put an MS Windows picture as the desktop background screen and let them go to the Firefox browser that they may have already been using. The silly(very silly) comment about lots of $$ spent training is laughable as I just spent the last 6 months organizing training for thousands of employees for MS Vista.
