However the capability has never before been available for Linux desktops. A Mac OS X version of the Netflix release is available now and an Ubuntu Linux version will be ready early next year says DeviceGuru Boxee lets users play and share media from computers and other devices across a home network says the company. The distribution is said to stream content from various free and commercial Internet sources or download videos music and photos from the Internet. It has been recently ported to the Apple TV 2.

Available in Obsidian Black or Alpine White (other color choices are available but add to the cost) the Mini 9 runs Ubuntu Linux and comes with 512MB of RAM a 4GB solid-state hard drive and an 8. 9-inch LED display. Dell gives you a host of configuration options but as with the aforementioned color choices any changes you make will bump up the price. (It’s probably worth $35 to get the 8GB SSD.

10 was something of a disappointment. Not because it is bad which it is not but because is feels more like slightly refreshed Ubuntu 8. 04 rather than a new release. For one Ubuntu’s promised desktop interface overhaul is still not in evidence and that was promised two releases ago. And then there is the fact that apart from a few minor tweaks it looks every but the same as ubuntu 8.
