You think Ubuntu’s codenames are bad?

One Gnome release was codenamed “That, and a pair of testicles”. I agree that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of direction to this Ubuntu release. Are there any exciting Linux technologies up and coming outside KDE 4? After all the problems caused on my computer after installing Intrepid, I’d appreciate a steady bugfix-and-polish release.

The idea: Check out a netbook and take Ubuntu for a spin. The early reaction: Netbooks can be handy, but they can also cramp your hands with those dinky keyboards. If you’ve never given Fedora a try, now is a great time. The tenth revision slick and stable and it has a rock solid feel to it that, for our money, trumps even Ubuntu’s latest release. Fedora 10 has many of the features we loved in Ubuntu – the latest version of GNOME and the new NetworkManager utility, for instance. As a bonus you also get the always excellent RPM package system, the new Empathy instant messenger framework, PackageKit and host of other Fedora-specific tools. Something for everyoneFor long-time Fedora fans, two noteworthy changes in this releaseshould be welcome news. The first is the new “glitch-free” version of PulseAudio, the underlying audio system in Fedora.
