The reason why I don’t use Ubuntu
OS News
Their unwillingness to report bugs and any fixes is AFAIK, not playing fair with the other distros that do this. Even ’source clone’ distros like CentOS feed back bugs they find to RedHat. Many of these get fed into the main kernel & other packages which Ubuntu seems to want to use in a one way street (the linux kernel, not the application packages)
IMHO, this is a selfish attitude. There is far more to the FOSS world than Ubuntu.

Moreover, the “grey box” issue in Firefox 64-bit for the Ubuntu 8. 10 AMD64 (Intrepid Ibex) operating system is a known and unresolved problem, as is also the fact that users had to reload the web pages to see the flash content, or even to restart Firefox. The following guide is here to teach you how to replace the 32-bit version of the flash player with the 64-bit one, on Ubuntu 8. It will work with other 64-bit Linux distributions.

These processors are generally used for devices like mobile phones and will appear in netbooks. Now the devices can have a full operating system that generally includes an office productivity suit and is known for running with far lower system requirements. It may be that people will have a choice of ultra-small, ultra-cheap mobile devices that ultimately will have a pretty impressive feature set.

It’s totally free, downloadable from their website. Put it on the old PC that you want to upgrade, or even your new machine. Since the Linux community offers all the usual software packages, such as office suites, money management programs, games, and graphics editors, for free, going open source is always beneficial. If you haven’t used Linux yet, you’ll have some things to get used to.

Ubuntu to run on ARM-based netbooks
ZDNet
ARM-based processors have traditionally been used in small devices such as mobile phones, but it emerged in October that ARM’s technology would soon be used in netbooks, the new breed of small, low-cost notebook PCs. Thursday’s announcement builds on that revelation, as well as on Canonical’s announcement in June that it would.

Arm and Ubuntu take aim at the netbook market
T3, UK
The all-new double acts plans to work together for a Arm-powered, Linux-run device, described loosely as ‘a small internet-centric device’, hoping to be the Morecambe & Wise of the market rather than the Cannon & Ball. Or even worse, the Little & Large. In truth, it sounds like just another netbook so far, but we wait to be impressed when it lands at next year’s Computex show. It’s all part of Ubuntu’s plan for world domination in the coming months, with the company pitching more of its resources at the mobile and netbook markets, as well as getting up close and personal with Intel - look out for a newly-developed mobile platform from that pairing in 2009.
