The reason why I don’t use Ubuntu
OS News
Their unwillingness to report bugs and any fixes is AFAIK, not playing fair with the other distros that do this. Even ’source clone’ distros like CentOS feed back bugs they find to RedHat. Many of these get fed into the main kernel & other packages which Ubuntu seems to want to use in a one way street (the linux kernel, not the application packages)
IMHO, this is a selfish attitude. There is far more to the FOSS world than Ubuntu.

ARM embraces Ubuntu for mobile gadgets
Telecoms.com, UK
But now Ubuntu, one of the more popular and well regarded flavours of the Linux desktop market is about to make waves in the mobile space through a deal with ARM. The mobile chipset vendor said it has struck a deal with Canonical, the commercial backer of Ubuntu, to put the Linux OS on Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and other handheld gadgets including smartphones. Interestingly, ARM intends to port the full desktop version of Ubuntu to the ARMv7 processor architecture, including ARM Cortex-A8 and Cortex-A9 processor-based systems. “The addition of the new operating system will enable new netbooks and hybrid computers, targeting energy-efficient ARM technology-based SoCs, to deliver a rich, always-connected, mobile computing experience, without compromising battery life,” the chip vendor said. Lat month, mobile connectivity took centre stage.

Discovering Ubuntu as a Windows User

It’s totally free, downloadable from their website. Put it on the old PC that you want to upgrade, or even your new machine. Since the Linux community offers all the usual software packages, such as office suites, money management programs, games, and graphics editors, for free, going open source is always beneficial. If you haven’t used Linux yet, you’ll have some things to get used to.

Ubuntu to run on ARM-based netbooks
ZDNet
ARM-based processors have traditionally been used in small devices such as mobile phones, but it emerged in October that ARM’s technology would soon be used in netbooks, the new breed of small, low-cost notebook PCs. Thursday’s announcement builds on that revelation, as well as on Canonical’s announcement in June that it would.

Speed up web surfing in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)

10 Intrepid distribution. My recommendation in this article is to install a proxy server on your local computer. This stores local copies (caching) of web sites on your computers hard drive. When you surf to a site it checks the cache first and it it finds the page or image there, it loads directly from the local hard drive copy.
