Ubuntu: Linux’s Obama (Sort Of)
InformationWeek – Feb 25, 2008
In the four years it’s been around, Ubuntu’s managed to set itself apart from the rest of the Linux distributions out there by dint of two things: it evolves, and it evolves on a fairly aggressive schedule. They don’t let things languish. Part of that is because they have solid backing and a broadening circle of support from the industry, but I’m inclined to believe it’s also because they don’t just sit around and say “Good enough. ” They ask, “What can we do now?”In Mark Shuttleworth’s recent.

Running a website like Tectonic means I am constantly installing new applications to try them out. Many of which I later have to remove or lie forgotten on the hard disk until I start to wonder where the +40GB of free hard disk space went to. And when that happens I tend to back up the essentials – email, documents and website backups – format my hard disk and install a clean version of Ubuntu. Doing this every few months means that a few times a year I get to really consider what the most important applications on my desktop are…
His message to us was CCâd to the Technical Board and the leader of Fedora. It would be worth bringing it to our readersâ attention because some were concerned (if not outraged) about the subject.
Is Obama the American Mandela?
OpEdNews – Feb 24, 2008
The world that believes in love, peace and responsibility. Believing in others more than himself. Serving others and caring for others not because he has to but because it is what makes him Madiba. He just does what should be done.

The offered options like a full office suite (open office) media playback, slider keyboards etc… Running office seemed like a great option, but running it I noticed it took several minutes (my perceptionâ But at least 1 min of staring at an unchanged screen). Iâm not sure whether things just have yet to be optimized or if this is really what to expect when products arrive later in the year. The MIDS seem actually more like Intel rebranded the UMPC platform and upped things with revised form factors and specs. They are more in line size-wise with the Fujitsu u810 and a bit larger than the HTC Advantage – both of which I also saw for the first time on the trip.

Our goal is to increase the world’s supply of open source software while providing young programmers inspiring, meaningful summer jobs. Since the first Google Summer of Code in 2005, the program has had remarkable success. Last year we connected 900 students with more than 130 open source mentoring groups, including such prominent organizations as Dojo, Python, Samba and Ubuntu. Several past students are still contributing to their projects and many are serving as mentors in this year’s program. Meanwhile, similar programs are springing up all over, including the Finnish Summer Code Program, the GNOME Women’s Summer Outreach Program, the Season of Usability, and game publisher NCSoft’s Winter of Code. This year’s Google Summer of Code promises to be the most successful we’ve ever held. We’ve extended the program timeline to allow students and mentors to discuss applications before settling in to write them, and we’re continuing last year’s tradition of announcing accepted applicants early to allow students more time to bond with their project communities.
