Nurses celebrate their profession

Singing and dancing to the sound of trumpets, saxophones and drums and dressed in their uniforms, nurses from all over the city took part in the four-hour celebration. Procession leader Sister Ephenia Broodie said: “Black or white, coloured or Indian, man or woman, we all make a contribution to this country. It is this caring contribution and Ubuntu that makes South Africa what it is today. “Even retired nurses play an important role and are still useful as we can still work as home carers or at clinics short of staff. The former Kalafong Hospital nurse said they were embarking on a campaign to encourage retired nurses to assist with home-based care for those who cannot afford to go to hospital because they have no money or they are too frail.
