orgRob Pegoraro: Well, there is that. But have I mentioned that the Washington Post has a very widely-read classified ads section, with very reasonable rates?_______________________Rockville, MD: Rob: Re Ubuntu Breezy Badger edition on an AMD 64 bit computer. I’ve loaded and brought it "up". It accepts my login and pw, then following a disclaimer it takes me to a repetition of my user name an pw and asks for a command to bring up the graphical user interface. The request for a command is preceded by $. I can’t find anyone (including emails to Ubuntu) who can tell me what command to issue…
Rob Pegoraro: Thanks!_______________________PA, CA: Thanks for taking my question. I have a Pbook G4 with the new iLife. I want to use it, but I can’t find a good tutorial or book on it, and the Apple support does not give you much. Can you recommend a solution?Rob Pegoraro: Have you used the built-in Help? Each one comes with a pretty good (in my experience) introduction to what these applications do–and if you’re like most folks, you’ll probably only be using iPhoto at the start, which is far more approachable than the rest of the bundle. _______________________Winchester, Va. Thanks for the chats.

Xen, Virtually in Linux
Server Watch – Feb 23, 2006
Installing and Running XenI really wanted to make this a nice Xen howto, all about installing it to a hard drive and installing guest operating systems, but I couldn’t get the blimey thing to work. Installing Xen is easy — getting the guest OS to work on my test Ubuntu system just didn’t work. Either I’m dim, or it’s difficult. I vote for difficult. And, the steps are different for every Linux distribution. So instead here a list of howtos for different distros:.

Which do you prefer? If its Linux, which distribution do you use?I “rotate” Linux distributions periodically so that I stay familiar with all of the popular ones. Right now I’m running openSUSE. I ran Xandros, then Ubuntu for a while, and Linspire for a bit, too. For the first half of 2005 I ran MEPIS more than any other distribution. My next one will probably be Mandriva, followed by Fedora. After that, who knows? And yes, I prefer Linux. Windows is too geeky for me, with all of the security problems and weird viruses and things, and Macs are a bit pricey for someone of my modest means, although I do now have an older G4 desktop (bought used) for Mac OS X software testing.
