Although I’d hoped otherwise, none of the distros could connect to our home wireless network as is (not even Ubuntu) – something that Windows XP was able to do out of the box. Of course, the network server is running XP and the network was configured in Windows, so that gives Windows an advantage starting out. Or maybe I need to find a wardriving app for Linux. However, I’m not really interested in loading Linux on our home laptop for now – I don’t use it that often; and when I do, my primary applications are Web surfing, e-mail and photo editing.

It’s also not offered on Mandriva’s site (in contrast to an HP laptop – for France only). But still: There are first tentative steps happening to provide preinstalled linux-computers of major players (first HP with Ubuntu, now somewhere – wherever – Dell). So the situation is slightly improving. Though in my opinion still not fast enough. cyber_riggerSep 18, 200511:03 AM EDT Screw Dell.
